June. 1, 2005 - Welcome from ERNEST ABUBA (aka) SHAKU GYO SHIN OM AH HUM VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUM / NAMU AMIDA BUTSU
Ernest Abuba, is an Obie Recipient, Actor, Director,
Playwright, Teacher, Performance Artist, Screenwriter, Poet, Choreographer,
and Producer. He is the voice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the
audio-book THE ART OF HAPPINESS, Vol. 1., by
Howard C. Cutler, M.D. He has worked in over a hundred fifty productions
professionally for 35 years on Broadway, Off-Broadway, Films, Television and
regionally. He is notable for his role as The Reciter, in Sondheim's revival
of PACIFIC OVERTURES Off-Broadway,
YELLOW FEVER and SHOGUN MACBETH and
his semi-opera CAMBODIA AGONISTES which toured
internationally at the Cairo Experimental Theatre Festival, and the
Johannesburg Market Theatre in South Africa, produced by Pan Asian Rep. His
other plays, PAPA-BOY, EAT A BOWL
OF TEA, AN AMERICAN STORY,
THE DOWAGER, NIGHT STALKER
(adaptation of Beowulf), and LEIR REX (adaptation
of King Lear) have been produced by Shout Productions and New York
Performance Works at La MaMa ETC., Pan Asian Rep., and the Asian American
Theatre Company of San Francisco. He is a recipient of five New York State
Council on the Arts Grants for writing and directing, a Rockefeller
Foundation Fellowship, and a (CAPS) Creative Artists Public Grant. He
performed recently his co-original piece with Shigeko Suga,
SPLEEN (a Butoh-Flamenco work)- inspired by Charles
Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal at H.T. Chen &
Dancer's Co. at Mulberry Street Theatre. Most recently his play
KWATZ! THE TIBETAN PROJECT
received rave reviews produced by Pan Asian Rep., Off-Broadway, where he has
been teaching an Actors /Writers Workshop for four
years. He is in his 10th year as Guest Faculty at Sarah Lawrence College. ErnestAbuba @
